Heat Box Steward/Clerk of the Course 
BC Short Track Cup

Description

Purpose of the position:
The Heat Box Steward/Clerk of the Course works in a designated staging/calling area known as the "heat box" where athletes wait prior to the start of their race.

Responsibilities & Activities:
The Heat Box Steward/Clerk of the Course is responsible for calling out the names of skaters and organizing them before they are about to step out onto the ice to race. Is responsible for seeing that the Skaters are wearing their racing numbers and correct uniforms.

Date/ Time / Shift of the event or activity: Saturday, December 14th
first shift from 7am to 12PM,
- second shift from 12PM to 5PM or
- full day 7AM to 5PM

Site location:
North Rink, Indoors, Richmond Olympic Oval

Working conditions:
Must be able to stand rink-side for minimum 5 hour shift.

Benefits to the volunteer:
Volunteers will learn more about the sport of speed skating (new skills!) Coffee/tea and lunch provided; parking covered.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER:

Skills, experience, abilities required: Experience volunteering at a sports competition or event is an asset. Personal traits/qualities desired: Must be personable, able to speak in a loud, clear voice.

Education/ Qualifications required:
Officials Level 1

Languages: English

Training/Orientation required for this position:
BC Speed Skating Officials Level 1 Clinic (Sunday, Oct 6th) is required.

Minimum Time Commitment/Shifts expected:
Minimum 1 full competition day (10 hours). Hours can be split into two 5 hour shifts at the same competition or different short track speed skating competitions held at the oval (Western Elite Circuit #2 or Canada Cup Jr Final)

Hospitality Room 
BC Short Track Cup

Description

Purpose of the position:
To monitor, set up and organize the volunteer hospitality room

Responsibilities & Activities:
Set up food and beverage for coffee breaks and lunch time. Monitor who comes into hospitality room (volunteers only). Keep hospitality room neat and tidy.

Date/ Time / Shift of the event or activity: Saturday, December 14th
first shift from 7am to 12PM,
- second shift from 12PM to 5PM or
- full day 7AM to 5PM

Site locations:
Indoors. Hospitality Room at the Richmond Oval.

Working conditions:
Position is a mix of sitting and standing. Volunteer must be able to lift up to 10lbs (arrange chairs, tables, assist with moving food).

Benefits to the volunteer:
Volunteers will learn more about the sport of speed skating (new skills!) Coffee/tea and lunch provided; parking covered.

Lap Counter 
BC Short Track Cup

Description

Purpose of the position:
A Lap Counter shows the number of laps remaining for the lead-skater at all times and that scorer will decrement the lapboard each time the leading skater passes.

Responsibilities & Activities:
Additional Lap Scorers can be assigned if additional lap counts are being displayed. When additional Lap Scorers are being used, they will keep track of the remaining laps for their assigned skater or team. The Lap Scorer will ring the bell to signify the last lap of each race, as the lead skater begins the final lap.

Description

Purpose of the position:
To record the order of all finishers in each race.

Responsibilities & Activities:
Place judges are assigned, by the Chief Place Judge, skater finishes they are responsible for recording for each race

Date/ Time / Shift of the event or activity:

Saturday, December 14th
first shift from 7am to 12PM,
- second shift from 12PM to 5PM
- or full day 7AM to 5PM

Runner 
BC Short Track Cup

Description

Purpose of the position:
Runners are responsible for taking race sheets to designated results and coaches areas on behalf of the Recorder. Race sheets are posted to inform officials, coaches and skaters of their qualification and the race in which they shall start.

Date/ Time / Shift of the event or activity: Saturday, December 14th
first shift from 7am to 12PM,
- second shift from 12PM to 5PM or
- full day 7AM to 5PM

Site location:
North Rink, Indoors, Richmond Olympic Oval

Working conditions:
Must be able to walk long distances and stand for a minimum of 5 hours.

Timer 
BC Short Track Cup

Description

Purpose of the position:
Responsible for recording race times.

Responsibilities & Activities:
Timers are positioned off the ice and adjacent to the finish line in order to record the accurate time of the Skaters. Each timer is assigned a skater in every race. Timers report to the Chief Timer.

Date/ Time / Shift of the event or activity: Saturday, December 14th
first shift from 7am to 12PM,
- second shift from 12PM to 5PM or
- full day 7AM to 5PM
