2018 Steveston Dragon Boat Festival Administration Volunteer 
STEVESTON DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL 2018

Description

Purpose of the position:
Volunteers are needed prior to the event to assist with leadership activities and the planning of the event.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Miscellaneous tasks focused towards organization, administration, coordination and social media. Volunteers may be required to volunteer from either our Richmond office or Vancouver office. Tasks include:
- Leadership roles organizing the festival
- Working with media
- Organizing teams of volunteers
- Organizing programs such as those for children, sponsors, or adult paddlers
- Assisting with volunteer registration and data entry
- Working at an information desk
- Providing technical set-up or strike support
- Working with our VIPs and Sponsors

Date/ Time of the event or activity:
One week prior to the event and the day of the event August 18th to August 25th

Site location:
1. ) Creekside Community Center:
1 Athletes Way, Vancouver, BC V5Y 0B1

2.) Steveston Village, Richmond BC. Specifically: Imperial Landing Docks - 4310 Bayview St., Richmond, BC V7E 6S8

Indoors and Outdoors.

Supervises (if applicable):
Volunteer Coordinators have the opportunity to supervise volunteers during the event.

Benefits to the volunteer:
Volunteers will meet with the organizers of the event to plan and organize a large event. Being leadership positions, volunteers will both learn and use leadership skills that they will pick up during our training sessions. Furthermore, this is a great way for volunteers to learn about a new watersport and be more engaged in the Dragon Boat community.

During the event, volunteers will receive volunteer privileges such as free food and a free T-Shirt.

Additional information about the position:
Potential to be a long term commitment if volunteers are interested in continuing to help the organization during many of the events that they hold.

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER:
Skills, experience, abilities required:
N/A preferable if volunteer is aged 15 or older.

Personal traits/qualities desired:
Leadership qualities. It would be preferred if volunteers have experience with event coordination or have held leadership roles. Volunteers should be organized, kind, sociable, and responsible.

Additional info: Languages:
English. Other languages such as Mandarin, Cantonese, French etc. are greatly beneficial but not required.

Training required for this position:
Training will be provided by staff members.

Minimum Time Commitment expected:
5 hours throughout the week prior to the event, and 6 hours at the event.

Other expectations of volunteer:
To be on task and productive during volunteer shifts. To be confident in dealing with situations that are presented to them.

Purpose of the position:
Volunteers at the festival work primarily to ensure excellent guest service throughout the site.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Miscellaneous tasks to help with organization during the event. These tasks include:
- Greeting customers and providing accurate information
- Checking passes
- Selling merchandise
- Helping to set up and run various activities, such as children's crafts or paddler games
- Assisting entertainers
- VIP/Sponsor services

Date/ Time of the event or activity:
August 25th, 2018 from 7:30AM to 6PM

Site location:
Steveston Village, Richmond BC. Specifically: Imperial Landing Docks - 4310 Bayview St., Richmond, BC V7E 6S8

Working conditions:
Must be able to stand out in the sun for 2-3 hours periods

Benefits to the volunteer:
This is a great way for people in the community to get involved in a new watersport and explore a tradition that has spanned over 2000 years after having originated in southern China.

Volunteer privileges such as free food (lunch provided) and a free T-Shirt will also be provided.

Additional information about the position:
- Short term commitment.
- Leadership opportunities are available.
- Training will occur on the day of the event at the site.

Teamwork and interpersonal skills, commitment, a positive attitude.

2018 Steveston Dragon Boat Festival Race Volunteer 
STEVESTON DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL 2018

Description

Purpose of the position:
Volunteers for the Race will be needed to work specifically with the dragon boating teams that will be attending the festival. Race Volunteers are assigned to work specifically with the dragon boat teams on-water, on the docks, at paddler meeting areas, and in Racer's Village.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Duties will mainly be centered around supervising the loading and unloading of paddlers into and out of the dragon boats in a safe and orderly manner.

Date/ Time of the event or activity:
August 25th, 2018 from 7:30AM to 6PM

Site location:
Steveston Village, Richmond BC. Specifically: Imperial Landing Docks - 4310 Bayview St., Richmond, BC V7E 6S8

Working conditions:
Must be able to stand for a 5 hour shift both in and out of the sun.

Supervises (if applicable):
Racers of all ages.

Benefits to the volunteer:
Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet with teams from all around B.C. This is a great way for people in the community to get involved in a new watersport. Volunteer privileges such as free food (lunch provided) and a free T-Shirt will also be provided.

Additional information about the position:
- Short term commitment
- Volunteers are assigned to their stations at the start of each race day and training will be provided at the beginning of each shift.
