Richmond Therapeutic Riding Association


Purpose of the position:
To provide support to our riders during their lessons. To help them feel safe and gain a sense of achievement.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Program Volunteers are responsible for helping to set up equipment for lessons, assisting with preparation of horses for lessons, interact with and support riders during their riding lessons.

Date/ Time of the activity:
On-going. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday mornings and Monday, Wednesday afternoons.

Site location:
Richmond Therapeutic Riding Association at Twin Oaks Farm. Indoor and outdoors

Working conditions:
Working horse farm. Indoor arena with dirt footing. Must be able to walk/run on slightly uneven/soft surface for short periods of time. Provide light physical support at shoulder level while walking along side a horse.

Additional info: Attend an orientation & training session. Complete a Criminal Record

Skills, experience, abilities required:
No experience required. Must be 16 years or older.

Personal traits/qualities desired:
Enthusiastic, reliable, punctual.

Training required for this position:
Training provided at orientation & training session.

Minimum Time Commitment expected:
3 hours once a week for the length of a 10-12 week session.
