Volunteer Textile Repair Instructor

Purpose of the position:
Let''s Rethink Textile Waste!

The Environmental Programs team are recruiting volunteers to help facilitate their textile repair and repurpose workshops in person and virtually. Help Support and contribute to the City''s vision for a circular economy.

Responsibilities and Activities:
- Co-host with City employees on textile repurposing activities
- Assist with textile/clothing repairs
- Educate attendees on how to maintain fabrics
- Actively engage with attendees when assisting with sewing activities.
- Educate attendees on sewing techniques.

Date/ Time of the event or activity:

Saturday, December 11, 2021

10:00 am - 11:30 am

Site location:
This workshop will take place in person and on a virtual platform

Working conditions:
Volunteers will be asked to co-host in virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom or Webex. Must have access to a computer.

Skills, experience, abilities required:

- Some sewing experience.
- Basic knowledge on simple sewing techniques
- Know how to operate a sewing machine.
- Sound knowledge of virtual platforms Zoom and Webex

Additional screening required for this position :
- Applicants must complete a criminal record check.
- Volunteers will be required to attend an interview and orientation session prior to facilitating.

Minimum Time Commitment expected: Volunteers are expected to meet virtually for 1 hour sessions leading up to co-hosting workshops.
