Description

Our Outdoor Movie Night needs you!! Held at King George Park (by the waterpark) Outdoor Movie Night is a free family event that includes activities such as hula hoop, limbo, facepainting, giant bubble blowing, a BBQ, community booths and the showing of Anne of Green Gables.

Tasks include assisting with setup and running of the games, and booths, helping with the activities with everyone helping with teardown before the movie starts. Invite your friends and stay for the movie!

2017 Walking Tour Vignettes - Student Actor 
Steveston Museum

Description

* This opportunity is currently only open to pre-selected students from McRoberts Secondary School - please only apply if you are from this program *

The Steveston Historical Society, together with the Steveston Museum, is celebrating Steveston's past by enhancing the existing walking tour programs of the village by adding a series of heritage vignettes using costumed interpreters. 

The launch of these performances will correspond with Canada's 150th Birthday year in 2017.

BULLHEAD DERBY - Set up & Take down 
Steveston Salmon Festival

The 7th Annual Bullhead Derby is a fun community kick off to summer! We are looking for physically able volunteers to assist with the set-up and take down for this family event. Tents, tables, signage. 


There are two different areas you can be involved in; meeting our team at Garry Point Park in the morning to help unload and set-up, or meeting the team at Garry Point Park in the afternoon to set down the event.

Description

Richmond's Canada 150, a multi-faceted, year-long celebration, ignites the passions of the citizens of Richmond, honours Richmond's distinct and vibrant cultural diversity, and leaves lasting legacies that foster civic pride and carry the spirit of 150 into the future.

Volunteers will be needed to help plan and implement various activities and events throughout the City. The City and the volunteers will also work with a broad range of community organizations to promote their participation in the Canada 150 celebration.

Canada Day at the Cannery 
Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society

Description

Come celebrate Canada Day in Steveston and volunteer at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. This year, Steveston will be hosting an even larger Canada Day celebration, with music stages, vendors, attractions at multiple locations including one at the Cannery! We are looking for volunteers to help us with greeting and counting, our crafts and photobooth station, volunteer check in area, be a parade participant and general set up and clean up. All opportunities due not require prior experience. Shifts are approximately 3 - 4 hrs long, and will be provided with refreshments during the shift. Volunteers are required to attend an orientation before your shift. Scheduled dates are:


June 23rd - 3:30 - 4:30 pm


June 24th - 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Gulf of Georgia Tour Guide Volunteer 
Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society

Description

Become a part of our interpretation team and work independently or as part of a team to lead guided tours of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Tour guides facilitate visitor experience by providing information and answering questions about the history of West Coast fishing industry, salmon canning, and herring processing. This role will require additional training and commitment of one regular shift per week with some flexibility.

Those that enjoy working with children will assist them at the start of the parade; leading them to the starting line. Other volunteers will ready at the finish line ready to receive the children; provide them with a snack and beverage after their cycle and leading them to the bike check.

SALMON FESTIVAL - Grounds Crew Leads 
Steveston Salmon Festival

Description

This is the crew that is for the “jack of all trades” or for those who are hands on folk!  Our event set-up crew is responsible for the grounds organization and installation of our annual Steveston Salmon Festival. For 2017, we are looking for two people to shadow and be mentored by our current volunteer team.


The people of Steveston have come together every year since 1945 to celebrate Canada’s birthday and the rich heritage of our community.  It is one of the largest Canada Day celebrations across the country! On average, over 70,000 people from across Richmond, Metro Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest spend Canada Day with us!


Responsibilities



  • Set-up and teardown of the event site,i.e.


    • Small stages, digging barbeque pit, electrical, water hoses, tents, tables, chairs and fences


  • Organizing and disrupting equipment and materials to and from the storage site

  • Perform trade-related duties throughout, i.e.


    • carpentry, electrical, painting and vehicle maintenance


  • Administration, i.e.


    • Attend Salmon Festival committee meetings in regards to the festival (Jan-July)

    • Coordinating with the City the distribution of event materials



Requirements



  • A minimum of 19 years of age

  • Physical labour; includes heavy lifting

  • Walking or standing for periods at a time

  • Have a valid driver’s licence

  • Forklift Operators Licence (Class 5 asset)

  • Trades experience (asset)

  • First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS training (asset)


Time Commitment



  • One meeting per month, Monday 7-9pm

  • June 26-30 (hours TBA)

  • Saturday, July 1 (6:00am-9:00pm)

Steveston Salmon Festival

Description

The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre is host to beautiful Japanese art displays on July 1st. Looking for some hands on volunteers to assist putting up white paper to cover the walls inside the building as well as moving tatami mats.

Lunch will be provided.
