2017 Exhibit Opening May 6 - The Pull of the Net: A Multicultural Celebration

Description

Be a part of our FREE, family friendly event The Pull of the Net: A Multicultural Celebration on May 6th, 2017. There will be 2 shifts a day, around 2 - 3 hours each (with a break in between). Volunteers are needed to assist with the Set Up and Tear Down, Gallery Attendants, Theatre Attendants, Info Table and Greeter/counter for the event.

Highlights of the event include cultural performances every hour, community exhibitor booths, demos and workshops, food tastings, kids activities and games, food vendors and short films inside our theatre. This event is to celebrate multiculturalism of West Coast fishing industry and the opening of our new feature exhibit.

2017 Walking Tour Vignettes - Student Actor 
Steveston Museum

Description

* This opportunity is currently only open to pre-selected students from McRoberts Secondary School - please only apply if you are from this program *

The Steveston Historical Society, together with the Steveston Museum, is celebrating Steveston's past by enhancing the existing walking tour programs of the village by adding a series of heritage vignettes using costumed interpreters. 

The launch of these performances will correspond with Canada's 150th Birthday year in 2017.

Canada 150 Celebration at South Arm 
South Arm Community Centre

Description

South Arm is celebrating Canada's 150th Birthday and are looking for volunteers to assist with this fun and exciting event.  

There will be live performances, Canada-themed crafts and activities, community organization info booths and prize giveaways.  

Event Date: Saturday, June 24
Shift times: 9:00am - 2:30pm AND/OR 2:00 - 8:00pm 

Volunteers are needed to help with the following:
- Food prep and distribution
- Arts and Crafts stations
- Hockey activities
- Roving volunteers
- Set-up and Take-down

One orientation session will be required for all volunteers to attend.  Date to be determined (in June).

Canada 150 Craft Prep - 5 week opportunity 
South Arm Community Centre

Description

In preparation for our Canada 150 Celebration event, we are looking for volunteers who can assist with preparing craft supplies for the event.

Duties will include but not limited to:
- cutting out various shapes
- preparing head band pieces
- gluing popsicle sticks 

Shifts are as follows:

Mondays from 3:15 - 5:00pm 
May 8, 15, 29
June 5 and 12

Volunteers can assist with some or all above shifts.  ONE orientation session will be required sometime between May 1 - 5th.

Description

Richmond's Canada 150, a multi-faceted, year-long celebration, ignites the passions of the citizens of Richmond, honours Richmond's distinct and vibrant cultural diversity, and leaves lasting legacies that foster civic pride and carry the spirit of 150 into the future.

Volunteers will be needed to help plan and implement various activities and events throughout the City. The City and the volunteers will also work with a broad range of community organizations to promote their participation in the Canada 150 celebration.

Gulf of Georgia Tour Guide Volunteer 
Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society

Description

Become a part of our interpretation team and work independently or as part of a team to lead guided tours of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery. Tour guides facilitate visitor experience by providing information and answering questions about the history of West Coast fishing industry, salmon canning, and herring processing. This role will require additional training and commitment of one regular shift per week with some flexibility.

Pioneer Luncheon on May 27 (Saturday) at City Hall Plaza

Description

The Pioneer Luncheon is a signature event taking place on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on the north plaza at Richmond City Hall. It is part of the City’s Richmond Canada 150 program.

The Pioneer Luncheon event aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of current or former citizens who spent 50 or more years living in Richmond and who have helped to shape our community

This free event will include a catered lunch and live entertainment featuring a combination of programmed stage performances, roving entertainment and interactive displays and activities.

Mature and responsible volunteers will be needed to support the mentioned areas and schedules of various duties will be available closer to the event. All interested volunteers are required to attend a orientation (date to be announced soon)

SALMON FESTIVAL - Grounds Crew Leads 
Steveston Salmon Festival

Description

This is the crew that is for the “jack of all trades” or for those who are hands on folk!  Our event set-up crew is responsible for the grounds organization and installation of our annual Steveston Salmon Festival. For 2017, we are looking for two people to shadow and be mentored by our current volunteer team.


The people of Steveston have come together every year since 1945 to celebrate Canada’s birthday and the rich heritage of our community.  It is one of the largest Canada Day celebrations across the country! On average, over 70,000 people from across Richmond, Metro Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest spend Canada Day with us!


Responsibilities



  • Set-up and teardown of the event site,i.e.


    • Small stages, digging barbeque pit, electrical, water hoses, tents, tables, chairs and fences


  • Organizing and disrupting equipment and materials to and from the storage site

  • Perform trade-related duties throughout, i.e.


    • carpentry, electrical, painting and vehicle maintenance


  • Administration, i.e.


    • Attend Salmon Festival committee meetings in regards to the festival (Jan-July)

    • Coordinating with the City the distribution of event materials



Requirements



  • A minimum of 19 years of age

  • Physical labour; includes heavy lifting

  • Walking or standing for periods at a time

  • Have a valid driver’s licence

  • Forklift Operators Licence (Class 5 asset)

  • Trades experience (asset)

  • First Aid/CPR and WHIMIS training (asset)


Time Commitment



  • One meeting per month, Monday 7-9pm

  • June 26-30 (hours TBA)

  • Saturday, July 1 (6:00am-9:00pm)
