City Nature Challenge 2020

Description

Purpose of the position:
To educate the general public about the phone application "iNaturalist" through demonstration.

Responsibilities and Activities:
-Help setup a booth display and be responsible for materials provided
-Engage with visitors and show them how to be a "citizen scientist" through the documentation of living things by using the phone application "iNaturalist".
-Attend a training session to learn how to use the application and website
-Perform walkthroughs on devices on how to use the app/website
-Promote the benefits of documenting nature
-Answer questions about the app

Date/ Time of the event or activity: Saturday April 25th & Sunday April 26th

Site location (place, indoors/ outdoors etc.): Richmond Nature Park, outside & inside locations

Working conditions: Must be able to stand for long periods of time inside/outside. Each day could last 4 to 5 hours.

Additional information about the position: Other days will need volunteer coverage at Nature Park events throughout the year

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER:
Skills, experience, abilities required:
People skills, comfortable with large crowds, comfortable with using technology (ipad, smart phone, computers...etc)

Personal traits/qualities desired
: Outgoing, positive, motivational

Education/ Qualifications required
: Not required but a general interest or knowledge of nature/environment would be beneficial

Languages: English/Mandarin/Cantonese...etc


Training required for this position: Must attend a training session on how to use the application and website

Minimum Time Commitment expected: 2 hours

Other expectations of volunteer: Be on time and follow directions for event supervisors

Nature Park - Special Event Assistant 
Richmond Nature Park

Description

The Richmond Nature Park is seeking volunteers aged 15 and over to assist with an array of activities during a variety of special events happening throughout the year.

Volunteer activities can include greeting visitors, conducting visitor counts, supervising the parking lot, face painting, craft activities, wearing the Nature Park mascot costumes and set-up and take-down.

Volunteers will be expected to:
- Supervise participants to ensure a safe, friendly and inclusive environment
- Help with event preparation and/or takedown.

Qualifications and Skills:
- Enjoys working with the public and thrives while in a team setting
- Criminal Record Check completion preferred

Time Commitment:
- Dependent on event
