· Are you able to meet the physical requirements of the desired program?

Commitments
· One-year commitment to the program
· Contribute eight hours per month
· Complete basic initial training and participate in on-going training
· Be placed on a six-month probation period after basic training.

Note: Volunteer applications require a criminal record, reliability and vulnerable sector checks, the completion of a secondary application, and a suitability interview.

Are you interested in Birds and Bird Watching? Volunteer for Project Feeder Watch! 
Richmond Nature Park

Description

The Richmond Nature Park is joining the North American Bird Feeder Program, Project Feeder Watch, to survey birds that visit our community.

From November to April, volunteers will record the species they observe.

We are looking for volunteers who have an interest in bird watching to monitor and record the variety of species found at the outdoor bird feeding station at the Nature Park. (birding experience not required!)

When: 4 "watch days" a month. One hour minimum on each day.

The bird tracking season is from the first weekend of November to the last weeken of April.

Volunteers will have the flexibility to choose which weekend dates (Saturdays and Sundays Only) they are available for.

Training/Orientation: Volunteers must attend a mandatory training session. Upon completion of training volunteers will be sent instructions on how to sign up for shifts. Available training dates are listed in the "Schedule Shifts'' area below.

Volunteers 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

-Assisting in swim lessons, including our adapted program to support those with cognitive or physical limitations
-Shadow guarding with experienced Instructor/Lifeguards
-Staff in-service training sessions (e.g., acting as a victim in an emergency simulation)
-Hosting birthday parties
-Planning and/or implementing special events

These type of experiences is a great way to develop your interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills.

Walk Leader 
Walk Richmond

Description

Overview

Walk Richmond is a free guided walking program managed by Richmond Fitness and Wellness Association (RFWA) in partnership with the City of Richmond. This is a free program of scheduled walks led by a RFWA Walk Leader and trained volunteers. Each walk explores one of the many different trails, paths and parks throughout Richmond. The main goal is to make it easy for people of all ages, fitness levels and abilities to take part in an activity that promotes their health and well being

Role of the Walk Volunteer

The role of a Walk Volunteer is to share their love of walking and to facilitate and guide the participants along the local walking routes. Many of the participants will look to the Walk Leader for guidance and support.

The Walk Volunteer is someone who is:

· passionate about walking
· familiar with Richmond and the Walk Richmond routes
· friendly, enthusiastic and welcoming
· able to clearly communicate and give clear instructions
· reliable and punctual
· able to keep a group together and motivated
· able to support varying levels of walkers

Duties and Responsibilities

Before the Walk

· familiarize yourself with the walk route, how to get there, parking, etc
· contact the Walk Leader to confirm attendance via email 24 hrs in advance

On the Day of the Walk:

· check the weather forecast and dress appropriately
· arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled walk
· check in with the RFWA Walk Leader about any special instructions or precautions for the walk
· welcome all walkers and identify newcomers to the Walk Leader
· ensure all participants have signed the sign-in sheet
· confirm that all walkers feel confident about the walk before setting off
· communicate any concerns to the Walk Leader
· be prepared to be assigned as the lead, middle or end (sweeper) positions
· walk at a measured pace that suits the individuals you are leading
· communicate any issues or suggestion to the Walk Leader after the walk

Scheduling and Availability
· required commitment is a minimum of one walk per month on average
